PTO Chair & Committee Information
There are always opportunities to help out!
Below is a summary of some of our committees and what they do.
Art Show: (June) Work with Mrs. Chong to coordinate volunteers, hang artwork, and decorate the halls for the Quarry Hill Art Show.
Back to School Picnic: (September) Coordinate invitation, volunteers, photo backdrop, etc. for the annual Back to School picnic for Quarry Hill families.
Back to School Raffle: (August-September) Work with PTO to sell raffle tickets for “items” such as premium parking spots for school events, front row seats for the orchestra concert, etc.
Barnes & Noble Night: (Early March): Work closely with school librarian to plan and promote event at the Oxford Valley Barnes & Noble. Organize a scavenger hunt. Coordinate parent volunteers, teacher readings, and book signings.
Book Fair: (October) The Book Fair is held for one week in the fall during school hours, culminating in Family Night (Friday evening) in conjunction with the Ice Cream Social. All aspects of the book fair need to be managed from coordinating with principal and book fair vendor, getting volunteers to assist with set up and break down, and helping students shop. Work cash register and reorder low stock items.
Box Tops for Education: (Ongoing) Encourage QH community to submit their supermarket receipts to the Box Tops app to raise funds. Promote Box Tops contests in order to log more receipts during the app’s extra points initiatives.
Clap-Out (June): Arrange clap-out and reception for QH alumni who are graduating from high school.
Field Day: (May) Work with PE teacher to organize signup genius for Field Day activities and water stations.
5th Grade Committee: (June) Work closely with 5th Grade teachers. Subcommittees will plan and organize the 5th grade celebration, Pennwood Mixer, Class T-Shirt, Yearbook, Yard Signs, and other opportunities for the graduating class.
Green Committee (ongoing): Coordinate with the Green Committee teacher liaisons to organize wildlife fundraisers, Earth Day initiatives, and a springtime courtyard cleanup.
Holiday Shop: (November or December) Held one week during school hours prior to the winter holidays. Coordinate shop date and gift items with vendor. Set up, reorder low stock items, and break down shop. Coordinate shopping schedule and volunteers to work shifts and assist students with their gift selections.
Ice Cream Social: (October) Arrange ticket sales and registration, and purchase ice cream, supplies, and toppings. Coordinate volunteers (usually teachers) to scoop ice cream, check in families who registered, and sell tickets at the door. Held on the final night of the Book Fair.
Jaguar Jog: (October) Solicit local sponsors, arrange DJ, and organize/distribute prizes for top fundraisers. Help with course set up on the day of the Jog.
Library Volunteers & Adopt-a-Book Program: Work closely with the school librarian to coordinate volunteers to reshelve books and keep the library in good shape. Organize springtime “Adopt-a-Book” program.
Hospitality Committee: (Ongoing) Arrange appreciation days throughout the year for teachers, staff, bus drivers, and crossing guard. Coordinate a week of Teacher Appreciation events in May, including breakfasts, lunches, and gift items for teachers and staff. Request food and drink donations and volunteers to provide food items, decorate, assist during the event, and help with set up and clean up.
Miler’s Club: (Fall/Spring) Create schedule and recruit volunteers for a running program that takes place during 2nd-5th grade recess. Tally laps and make awards for top participants.
Philanthropy: (Ongoing) Develop, arrange, and promote fundraisers and food/clothing drives throughout the year.
Picture Day: (October) Work with photographer to schedule event, distribute envelopes to classes, and recruit volunteers to assist during the day.
Pretzel Sales: (Ongoing) Promote pretzel program, take orders through PTO website, and organize monthly volunteers to bag/distribute pretzels to classrooms.
School Supply Coordinator: (Spring) Work with teachers to gather supply lists, approve vendor offering, and promote the sale of school supply boxes. Sort and distribute to classrooms before the first day of school.
Someone Special Dance: (February) Work with dance committee to choose theme, decorate the school, sell tickets, coordinate volunteer shifts, and set up and clean up.
Spirit Wear: (Ongoing) Coordinate with vendor to offer two Spirit Wear sales per year. Promote sale, and sort/deliver orders to classrooms upon fulfillment.
